A Few Facts About Porsche

Porsche Automobile Holding SE, usually shortened to Porsche or Porsche SE, is headquartered in Germany and was founded in 1931 by Austrian engineer Ferdinand Porsche and his son-in-law Anton Piëch.

Originally the company offered development work and consulting on motor vehicles, but did not build cars. After doing design work on the first Volkswagen Beetle, development started on the first Porsche vehicle and in 1939 the car brand was born.

Porsche was no exception when many different manufacturers changed their production to assist the war effort during the Second World War. Porsche produced several designs for heavy tanks, one being used as the base for a tank destroyer that was made and even created prototypes for a super-heavy tank.

Known today as a luxurious, high-end brand; the post-war Porsche was very different. Due to recovering from the devastation of a long, grueling war; parts were in short supply and so Porsche used Volkswagen parts through the mid 1950’s.

Porsche is celebrated for its sports cars, but the brand produces other vehicles; including the Panamera, a sports sedan, and the Cayenne, a luxury SUV. In 2010, the brand launched hybrid versions of both the Panamera and the Cayenne. Perhaps the most unexpected vehicles manufactured by Porsche however were the diesel engine tractors made from 1956-1962

Porsche is also the most successful brand in motorsports and has its own edition of the Need for Speed racing video game series.
