A Few Facts About Hyundai

The Hyundai brand was established in South Korea, in 1967, by Chung Ju-yung as part of his multi-industry conglomerate, the Hyundai Group. It became part of a separate division, the Hyundai Motor Company, of a different company, the Hyundai Motor Group, when businesses were split off in the late 1990’s during a financial crisis; which then evolved into Hyundai Motor Company’s current parent company, the Hyundai Kia Automotive Group, after purchasing its largest competitor.

The parent company is the world’s fourth largest automobile manufacturer. As a result of this, the Hyundai brand has some impressive statistics; Hyundai vehicles are available in 193 countries through about 6,000 dealerships, in 2010 Hyundai sold more than 3.6 million cars worldwide, there are seven Research and Development centers across the globe including the one in California that designs for the U.S. market and the Hyundai brand alone is currently estimated as having a value of $5.0 billion.

Hyundai experienced some issues in America closely following its 1986 introduction, gaining a reputation of being poor quality. The backlash of plunging sales, being dropped from dealerships and public mockery, by both various media and on smaller social levels, inspired Hyundai to dramatically increase funding for the development and manufacturing of their vehicles. The brand is more recently known for their 10-year or 100,000-mile powertrain warranty, added to show confidence in the product’s improvement.

In addition to its development and production of hybrid and electric vehicles, Hyundai is committed to projects such as turning over 30 miles of infertile land into grasslands using only local plants to protect the local ecosystem and aiding in the construction of six hydrogen fueling stations in California
