A Few Facts About Suzuki

The Suzuki Motor Corporation is Japan’s 4th largest automobile manufacturer and specializes in compact automobiles, motorcycles, 4x4 vehicles, ATVs, wheelchairs and a variety of other products that use a small internal combustion engine.

The company was originally founded in 1909 by Michio Suzuki as Suzuki Loom Works, but began its venture into the automotive industry in 1937, with its first vehicle prototypes produced within two years.

In 1954 the company name was officially changed to Suzuki Motor Company Ltd. and their product came to America in 1963 when the U.S. Suzuki Motor Corporation, a direct sales subsidiary, opened in Los Angeles.

The year 2002 was important for Suzuki as they reached 30 million automobile sales worldwide and were issued the title of “America’s #1 Warranty”.

They currently have divisions in India, America, Pakistan, Canada and many others resulting in distribution in 192 countries worldwide.

Suzuki achieves its worldwide distribution by having over 45,000 employees at 35 main production facilities in 23 countries. A very active sponsor of several sporting events, Suzuki is qualified as a major sponsor of luge, biathlon and cross country skiing. They also are the current title sponsor of the ASEAN Football Championship, which is the championship associated with the football teams of Southeast Asia.

In 2006 Suzuki celebrated their first year of more than 100,000 sales in the Unites States. The success was short-lived as sales dropped 17% in 2008 and 48.5% in 2009 causing freezes in production and importing, but in 2011 both were resumed.
